Highnam Court Classic Car Show

The Car Show was in aid of The Pied Piper Appeal which is held once a year in the fantastic grounds of Highnam Court. Once again it was a beautiful sunny day and three members from our club arrived at the impressive entrance to be directed to our parking place. There were plenty of Marshals throughout the estate to direct you. The Grand House was set in the most beautiful surroundings and we were parked in front of the rose gardens, looking up towards the very impressive house, and down towards the beautiful lake.

There were over 250 cars (of which some were of Concours D’elegance) and an array of classic bikes of top quality being displayed. Phil, Richard and I agreed that this was the best show so far, for the display of exceptional quality cars. There was also an Eddie Jordan Formula One racing car there where people could sit in it and feel the experience for a small donation to the charity.

Other attractions were well organised, a listed timetable of what's on were given to you in a booklet prior to the event. Also a loud speaker system prompted you to go to see events around the estate from Taiko Drummers, Aziza Belly Dancers, Fashion Show, Jazz Orchestra, Hot Air balloon,  live music and a cookery demo from Phil Vickery MBE (ex England Captain and World Cup Winner).

Richard enjoyed himself giving an interview with BBC Radio Gloucester about his car and also promoted the club. I also had a chat (or tried to lol) with the STIG. The Rolls Royces, Bentleys, the Lagonda were amazing but my pick of the show was a very rare 1904 Darracq; she's done 21 London to Brighton runs and only failed two, not bad for a 111 year old car. Well done to the caretaker of her, Ricky H, who is a member of MG Octagan Car Club.
