GWENT MG OWNERS CLUB

Coleford Carnival of Transport

5th April 2010

An early start was in order for our trip to Coleford, leaving Hurran’s at 0800hrs being led again by Wayne, who this time did not quite have a heavy foot as Brian (Pop) was with us.

The journey passed without incident and upon arrival we were guided to our parking positions, though not all together as we would have liked. Our Stag (and looking magnificent with all it’s shiny bits), Granada and Pop were parked on one side of the road and opposite were the four MG Roadsters, an Austin Healey (with more shiny bits) - game on, who will have the most bling by the end of the season, Tony F or Phil? - a Triumph Herald and further up the street our Escort RS 2000, bringing our club car’s to ten. Joining the event was also Derek & Sarah with their Triumph Spitfire 1500.

The town soon filled with an array of classic/vintage cars, bikes, buses, lorries and military vehicles. Throughout the day there were stalls aplenty with demonstrations by the St John’s Ambulance and the fire brigade. Out of our club cars one was singled out for photographs and an interview for the Coleford local news paper. Congratulations must go to Tony Newton and his Triumph Stag for the amount of time and effort in bringing his Stag to tip top condition. Just for the record its colour is Magenta and not as thought by many members as being pink.

Magenta - Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia - Magenta is a purplish-pink colour evoked by light stronger in blue and red wavelengths than in yellowish-green wavelengths.

This said, Tony’s Stag has the stronger shades of pink or so they say. I can’t see it myself, honest. The young ladies amongst us were Sophie, Chloe and Katy who took part in a find a monkey game and were awarded with the prize for four people to enjoy a day out on the Forest of Dean railway. They later decided to donate their win to the Caldicot Show raffle which is being held on the 4th July.

Come 4pm it was time to make tracks home and I regret to inform you that Derek’s Spitfire broke down and worse still it took an MG owner to solve the problem. Well done Richard, our “hero” of the day award must go to you.
