8th Newbury Classic Car and Motorcycle Show
22nd November 2009

Weather forecast for the day was clear and some showers; yea right. We left home at 0810hrs and as we going alone, (even Steven stayed home) we headed for Newbury. The weather and road conditions were fine until we hit Swindon. The heavens opened with a vengeance and it poured down, greatly reducing visibility. Thank goodness we had the insight to leave with the hood up and with my wipers working as they should this time; we soon arrived at the racecourse.

We reached the gates at around 1000hrs, being greeted by a young lady who was drenched through who guided us to our parking position amongst some 60 exhibits in the car park. Amongst them were the usual MGs, roadsters and GTs, Morris Minors, an Oxford, Ford Capris, one of which, a 1983 Laser won the best in show for the year. A few more vehicles included Jags, Hillman Imps and Minis. On the outskirts of the car park were a few auto jumble stalls with their goods being protected from the rain.

Once parked Sylvia and I made a mad dash to the grandstand area where inside there were 15 motor bikes ranging in age from 1912 to 1983 including: BSAs and Triumph Nortons. There were further stalls selling model cars but the majority catering for the bike owner with just a couple of stalls selling goods for the classic car. Stand by your phones, I picked up a Hayne’s manual for my Herald, so there is no stopping me now.

Around mid-day the black clouds and rain drifted away letting the sun shine through for a couple of hours. Come 1400hrs the rain had started again and by this time half of the outside exhibits had left the area. With this, the organiser presented the various winner’s shields and after receiving our attendance plaques, we headed for home.

During the course of the day, Sylvia, again proved that you don’t have to have blonde hair to be dumb. I’ll say no more on that matter. We covered 200 miles, didn't run out of petrol, my lights and wipers worked all the time, didn’t get lost nor break down, in all a TRIUMPHant day.
