Butty Run

11th July 2009

The day started with a downpour at Mountain Ash Comprehensive School where Ian Edwards of GTFM met everyone and provided maps and route instructions. Due to the weather and holidays only Lester and myself made the trip. As most cars only had the driver it was a case of ‘follow the leader’ rather than try and navigate alone.

The 12 cars drove down to Pontypridd and met up with the rest of the group. Luckily the weather eased slightly and we made our way to Trecco Bay. Only one person was mad enough to drive with the hood down, a young lad in a Morgan. One of the Rovers wouldn’t start but with a bit of judicious hammering and a bit of swearing it got going and arrived about 30 minutes after the others.

At Trecco the sun came out and it was a nice couple of hours with the holidaymakers and weekenders taking a lot of interest in the cars. Fish and chips was the order of the day and very nice it was too.

At about 2 o’clock we said our farewells and a number of cars, by now with the tops down, went back to Cilfynydd school where we met the Mayoress, bought raffle tickets and had a chat. As it started to rain heavily it was panic stations to get the hoods back in place which meant the draw for the raffle and final farewells was made indoors. A quick drive home with the wipers on double speed and that was another day over.
