GWENT MG OWNERS CLUB

Abingdon Air and Country Show

3rd May 2009

We arranged to meet at Forge Lane at the unearthly time of 7.30am. We arrived at 8.00am. Brian and Sylvie were already waiting, so we made a start and with 103 miles to go settled down to a comfortable speed of between 50 and 60 depending on the restrictions on the motorway.

It never took us long to get there we arrived at 9.15 so was pleased with that. The steward asked us where we would like to park and we said not too far from the toilets and we picked our own spot. As we settled down with Sue cooking Breakfast (bacon muffins) the steward asked us if we wanted to park with the rest of the MGs. We said we were ok where we were and he bid us a good day that was the last we saw of him.

The weather was sunny, cloudy and windy but when the wind dropped it was really warm. The show itself was big and had loads of cars there. Trade stalls selling everything although there was not a lot of auto jumble. There was plenty for the children a small farm with a calf, goats, turkey, lamb and other animals, rides and lucky dips.

As we walked around looking at the tanks helicopters, planes and cars side shows were going on. There was a cook off between two RAF teams. It was funny because one team were preparing stuffed Lamb roll and Sue made the poor chap go bright red by just laughing at the wrong time. The company was great and we managed to laugh for most of the day.

In the afternoon there was the air show with planes doing loop the loops, flying upside down coloured smoke from some and a parachute jump from a Chinook chopper and Hercules plane. Most of the show was too fast for me to catch on camera because by the time I found them in the view finder they were too far away to take a shot of.

We had a talk to the chap at the Abingdon works centre who gave us our plaques and fridge magnets, so we swapped e-mail addresses but for you I will say look up www.mgabingdon.org.uk for more information on what their club is up to this year. They were very nice people and made us feel at home from the start. We did find out that there was camping there but I am glad we never did because of the typical bank holiday weather - maybe next year.

It was a very good day. We left at about 5.30 stopping at the services for a call of nature and a chat and arrived home about 7.30pm. Please see photos
