Our meeting time and place was for 0845 hrs at the Crown, Pontllanfraith. Our phone rings at 0700 hrs - it was Geoff frantically phoning around to find out who was still going as the weather was not looking too promising. Decisions made, we all met as arranged with Geoff being first, followed by myself, Richard, Lester, Brian and finally Phil making an entrance feeling confident that his brakes were now in good order.
With Sue leading we set off for the short, leisurely drive to Abertillery and upon arriving at the car park saw that Adrian and Anne were already parked up. We lined our cars and were then joined by Adrian.
Fortunately the rain stayed away and the sun shone for a little time giving us the opportunity to wander around the 30 or so exhibits and the town with it's few stalls including the Royal British Legion. The show itself was quite small in comparison to others but was well supported by the locals and it was a shame that some found the journey a little too far (mind you, their cars are getting on a bit now ).
Come lunch time, Sue went off to search for a chippy to feed her family, only to queue up in one place only to find that they only sold ice cream and smoothies ( yea, easy mistake).
One of us had all the attention today with photos and interviews being taken and this time it was not Phil but Adrian and Anne - they were definitely the stars of the day and deserved every moment.
Whilst sat around our cars I over heard a conversation by a young man talking to two younger boys about my car, "his car is alright, it's a bit botchy but you could do something with this one to get it looking good" (Lucky for him I took my tablets last night). All I can say about his comments is, what do you expect from EBay, it will never be concourse but it's mine and I am more than happy with it) until I get a better one.
As 2pm approached, so did the black clouds, then the rain hit us, with panic it was hoods up, kit away, plaques collected, and very nice they were too, and a few quick goodbyes and wishing the holiday crowd a good time for their run to Cornwall. Don't forget to connect your distributor leads Richard, it helps to get your car going in my humble opinion. Another great day and looking forward to the next.
