Remembering the fun we had last year made getting up at 6.00am on a Sunday worth it. Arriving at Forge Lane at 8.00 was a bit of a push but we got there on time. Arriving before Phil for the first time was a thing to remember, but he had to stop and fill up. It was disappointing to see only four cars lined up and a call off the secretary saying due to ill health she would not be able to make it. We all wish her well.
Setting off for the 120 odd miles started at 08.10. Penelope Pitstop, (Sue) led most of the way until she turned off at the wrong services on the M4. Phil went in the lead and was overtaken by Hayden and Brian but regained the lead into the correct services for tea and toast. When we were ready to leave in came four more from the club - Bob, Tony, Carl and Louie - that made me feel better - a bit more support for the club.
We arrived before the official start time and took our place in the row, without a gazebo to put up and only four cars, as the others stayed at the services longer. It was not worth putting up the bunting so we set up the tables and had tea. The weather was very warm and very sunny. The girls with holes burning into their purses hit the boot stalls and to be fair it was a good one. I brought some overriders for my bumper, Sue got a
set of car ramps and Phil got a fuse only to find out Brian had a box full of them.
The show itself was bigger than last year but that may have been because it was their 25 Anniversary, Sue had a go on the bucking bronco
(I don’t know if the owner will be looking for compensation) but it gave everybody a laugh.
When we met up with the likely lads I asked Bob to choose GMGOC car of the show. He said it would be a joint choice - they choose a Jaguar XK140 and I must say it’s a good choice.
As the day went on we all did our own thing until 1500hrs, then the sky opened and never eased up until we left. Back at the services on the end of the M4 stopping for tea we put the tops down as it had brightened up a good bit by then. Phil was the last to get fuel so we made it back on our own along the Neath bank with Brian. The photos were taken courtesy of Matthew Arnold. It was his very first car show and travelled with
Hayden. He said he really enjoyed it.
Newport next Saturday. Come and chat.
