We started off at 7.45am to meet some of the others at Forge lane. 5 cars left there at 8.00am and headed for the lay-by on the A449. When we arrived Richard started to polish his GT. This looked like fun so we all had a go at cleaning it - for some reason there was a lot of sand in the rain and all the cars were covered in it. It reminded me of a couple of years ago when there was a storm in the Sahara dessert that was reported on the radio.

By the time we left the lay-by there were nine cars and we made our way to the Borders show in a convoy. It always makes me smile as the cars go past and they all stare at us. Sue was in front followed by Phil. I was a passenger in Phil’s car. I wanted to take photos of the line of cars behind us and as I turned around to take a shot my hat flew off, but I did get the photo so it was OK.

When we arrived we were met by very friendly stewards who showed us a place to park. We had a good spot and soon had the flags and bunting up. One of the stewards wanted to park his MGA with us and Kingsley came after so there were 12 cars in a line.

The show was quite large with things to entertain the children and stalls to entertain the women. But there was not a lot of auto jumble for the men. Beryl found a place for her to have her make up done (see photos) but would not stand by the sign so I could take a photo. Brian and Sylvia walked past the large organ and an old chap who was dancing in front collared me for a chat, but I could not hear what he was saying so I just kept saying yes and hoped it was in the right places.

Francis choose the GMGOC car of the show. First it was an Vanden-plas  but changed it to a Austin A40 Sport as there are only 15 left in existence and this one is the best. Some of the other club members joined us and we all had a good gossip about the cars, some taking the mickey out of every car there. It was good to just listen to them, but as they had not booked they had to leave their cars in the car park which was a shame really.

There was an arena where activities were going on and Keith and Phil were roped in to going around with the other cars, The commentator was quite confused as to why a Austin Healy Sprite was in the MG club and announced "here comes a Midget" but was soon put right by Phil. The weather was warm but with showers, some heavy.

4.30 soon came and we headed home. Saying our goodbyes and meeting for the next show in Stroud after our club meeting on the 15th May.
