We met at the Crown in Pontllanfraith at 8.00am. There were 4 cars when we left and along the way we picked up Lester on the A470. The journey was really beautiful as we went through Brecon and the sun was beating down. Following an old windy road we bypassed Builth Wells and the way we went was breath taking. When we got to the show we were disappointed to find ourselves in the car park. This was
because the ground around the lake was bogged down and to drive 200 cars across it would have spoilt a truly picturesque place.
We did not put up our event tent or the bunting so nobody would have guessed we were a club but as usual the laughter coming from us all soon gave the game away. We did go for a walk around the town and if you blinked you would have missed it, but the town did have a Victorian day and a lot of Ladies and Gentleman had dressed up for the day. They looked really good in their costumes and it’s the kind of town
that can pull it off because it seems as if the town has stood still since then. There were tents selling needle work, sweets and other products, a shop window had a model of the Titanic made from 3.5 million matchsticks and other smaller ships, loads of organ grinders on every corner. You could see that a great deal of effort had gone into the day.
Back at the car show it was as boring as ever. Tony fell asleep but the sun beat off the few drops of rain that fell and we had cake, because it was Sandra’s birthday, all of us sang happy birthday, it was announced over the tannoy and she duly went red.
Soon it was time to go home, we were given plaques on the way out and to be honest it could not come soon enough. We split up on the way home as Haydn and myself wanted to go home via the army range and the view was even better than the journey there. Although Haydn could not push Sue out of his car when we came to a sheer drop even though her door was open once again, I must pay him more next time. Haydn
had to put his hood up because it rained as usual. Roll on summer.
