Chepstow Carnival

12th July 2008

This day was a bit of a rush, as we were asked by Chepstow Rotary club if we could appear on their Carnival, so after many phone calls we got some of the gang together and arranged to meet at Forge lane at about 10am the next day. We drove along the old road to Chepstow picking up Francis and Tony along the way.

When we got into Chepstow our beloved Chairman took us the wrong way and we had to turn around and go back from where we come from. This was fun as it gave me chance to make faces at the ones still heading towards the roundabout where we turned. When we got to our destination it was a car park and there were the floats getting ready. We were given our instructions and told that we would be leaving at 12 O’clock.

Del boy's three wheeler was there and he was dressed as batman and collected some money for the rotary club. Lorraine and Sue had their photo taken with him (see Photos). Then it was time to leave.

First out was the floats, then the Cadets marching, then some tractors and then it was us - 10 cars turned out on the day among them was a Humber Scepter, a Le Francis and of course the Reliant. We headed through the town and the streets were lined with people waving, taking photos, some with camcorders and as I am a bit of a poser I really liked the attention we were getting. We ended up at a field next to the river Usk and lined our cars up facing the fair.

The rain came down in buckets but it never lasted long and it turned into a really nice day. There was also a fair on the other side of the road so some of us went over to see it. Sue and Bryony climbed into a hamster cage and went for a spin. Beryl and Lorraine went on the chairs that spin around. The look of fear on their faces was worth a 1000 words and I offered to pay for them to go on again it was that funny.

Back at the cars we had coffee stayed for a while and was thanked by one of the organizers. We then headed of home.
