Lifeboat Car Show
Weston Super-mare

Well, today was a day of mixed feelings - happy to see each other again, but sad knowing this is the last show of the year. Yes I know other things will be happening, like pub lunches, trips to the caves, Christmas party, Monthly meetings and the AGM. How will we fit it all in?

On our last trip nothing could go wrong or could it? After we left Hurrans at 9.05am, we picked up Tony and Angela at Chepstow. Bryony wanted me to sort the boot out as the back seat had collapsed on her, due to the cr.. I mean stuff we take with us each trip. While I was doing this the front cars lead by Philip pulled off. I quickly finished what I was doing and got under way. There were about four cars behind me when I pulled away and six in front. So I was in the lead of the five cars and the rest were out of sight, not long after we left the phone rang. It was Sandra telling us we were going too fast - 50mph. Whilst she was on the phone Richard passed us followed by Hayden grinning like a Cheshire cat. What do I do - keep up with them two or slow down for Sandra? I decided to slow down for Sandra. A couple of miles up the road I could see the front lot on the hard shoulder. Phil's exhaust had fallen off just after the front manifold pipe. Lynda did not want to travel with the pipe in the car so I jumped in with him and Sue drove my car. Off we set slowly knowing we had to get a new bracket for the exhaust. I then realised that I had no coat and Phil's car had the roof down - it was freezing. Then we noticed we had lost one. Yes it was Mr Sat nav (Richard). He had missed the turning to the M5 and was on the road heading towards London along the M4, turning back at the next junction. We met him at the show grounds later, but he was not the last as Sandra and Keith stopped at the services for a natural break.

The weather looked bleak and we put the sides up on the gazebo and with tables and chairs inside with the cookers it looked quite cosy, but not a lot was learnt from our day at Tredegar house last week. We were messy to say the least (see photos).

Hayden was in his glory taking the mick out of Phil but when we got there the pipe was soon fixed back in place we all split up, some doing retail therapy, others to look at the many classic and vintage cars while the rest made tea and had a chat.

We knew it was on the way but when the rain did come we all huddled in the gazebo - bit crowded but fun. Wayne, Francis and their other halves Bezz and Helen came without their MGs. Francis was on the way to Taunton and Wayne came to have a chat with everybody. Poor Bezz looked lost without her usual bottle of wine, but she says and I quote "I am now tee total". It's a lot like Nero saying Rome won't burn but here you are (joking).

After dinner we had another walk around the cars and I took some photos of cars I liked and some I would give my right arm for. Plaques were given out and we watched most of the cars heading off. Did we stay later to let the cars thin out or was it because we did not want it to end knowing it was the last show of 2007? As we packed away we could hear friends say with a lump or two in their throats "We will see you soon". Even Phil drove home slower. Was this because of his exhaust or that it was the last show. We will never know.

To be continued..
