Seven cars met in the lay-by at Forge Lane at 8.30am for the 124 mile journey to Haverfordwest and it was a journey we will not forget in a hurry. It was just like the wacky races. Dastardly and Muttley (Haydn & Lass) led onto the M4, but it was not long before the Slag Brothers, Rock & Gravel (Phil & Geoff) took the lead and although we never broke any laws - a steady 50 to 60 is
fast enough for our old cars - we soon got up to about 65 MPH! Then from out of the sun came Red Max (Wayne) out in front. It stayed like that until Prof. Pat Pending (Bob) overtook with a big grin on his face. Not to be outdone Penelope Pitstop (Sue) shot past and led us to the Services at the end of the M4.The Arkansas Chugabug driven by Luke and Blubber Bear (Keith & Sandra) admitted that Blubber bear had fallen asleep but she told me that it was because she had a sore throat. Glad to say it never
lasted long. On the way we came across a few MX's who waved and beeped their horns. At the services The Creepy coupe Big Gruesome and Little Gruesome (Richard & Lorraine) blamed Wayne for starting us all off. Whilst we were there we met the club of MX drivers who waved us on our way, a really friendly bunch of people. As soon as we got onto the A40 we stopped again because it turned cloudy and it was time to put up the tops - even the Vitesse showed off his new top.
Penelope Pitstop led the way to the show and soon we were sited inside Wayne's new gazebo with sides where we were met by Sergeant Blast and Private Meekly (Derek & Sarah) who got the edge on all of us by staying down overnight in a B&B. Phil noticed he had a frayed accelerator cable so using Richard's tools quickly changed it for Phil's spare cable. Richard and Keith found some
bargains in the auto jumble so that was good.
One lady popped her head around the curtains to see why we were all laughing and we said we were always like that. She believed it was something in the tea and wondered if we had any spare. There were lots of people asking us questions and I managed to pass them onto anybody I could - mainly Keith, Bob or Richard. The time went really quickly and soon it was time to pack up and
collect our plaques. One lady who was quite short wanted to sit in the Sprite and liked her experience enough to want to buy one when her husband retired.
There were a good few cars for sale and it was good to look around the show. Soon we were back on the road. Phil's wipers packed up and a car cut him up, Keith nearly went into the back of him and only avoiding a crash by going around the roundabout twice. Stopping back at the services we managed to lose Richard and Lorriane who were never seen again. Derek and Sarah stayed at the
services. The rest of us continued on our way with Dastardly and the Slag Brothers trying to catch up Penelope Pitstop but she was having none of it. The Chugabug (MGA) was doing very well and keeping up well. All in all it was a good day and we will go next year. The weather was fine all day but rained in the late afternoon and on the way home.
