Barry Show

10th June 2007

The day started late, leaving Forge Lane at 9.30 to arrive in Barry for ten o'clock, although some of us got there at 8.30am - thanks Phil - but we got there just after 10 and had a prime spot, right in the middle of the field. Gazebo and the usual flags were up in a flash. Whilst we were waiting at Forge Lane a 1966 Consul pulled up and asked if he could tag along as he was not sure where in Barry the car show was. We were only too pleased to help as always so there was one extra for the journey - in all there were ten cars.

What a day it was! It must have been the hottest day of the year. It was nice to use the gazebo for shade instead of the rain that we have been getting. There were more cars than last year and a fine turn out it was too with plenty of visitors to talk to. Some of the questions were to hard for me so the usual crowd came to my rescue - even Haydn was asked about brakes - I am sure he uses an anchor.

Soon it was time for the free steam train ride to the sea front. Here we split up, some going for a meal others going on the beach. Katie, Bryony, Sue and Lorraine going in the sea. Haydn was up to his neck in it, but that is not unusual. Richard stood on the sand and refused point blank to join the others and I was with him as the only time I go in the sea is the Med and its got to be really hot for me to do that.

We stopped to buy chips and Lorraine went into a local shop for a whistling kettle. It was fun to see Richard protest as he likes the old one - it should find a spot on Antiques Roadshow.

We met the others outside a pub so we had to have a shandy before leaving for the car show. Like fools we followed Richard onto the train only to find out that it never stopped where we got on so we had to walk back to the show - should have known better after last year but there you go.

With the day coming to an end we split up at grounds, because some wanted to catch the grand prix on the box. Traffic was busy because of road works but we made good time getting home. Sandra never got to junction 28 first this time he he.
