GWENT MG OWNERS CLUB

Tredunnock Fete and Barbeque

26th August 2006

Meeting at the fete at 12.00, we lined up the nine cars in a row. The preparation was different this time as we had a new gazebo with six legs, loads of poles and no instructions. It was funny to see the men trying to work out how it went - a bit like a MENSA test. First they tried one way then another and so on. The ladies not to be outdone tried to put up the small gazebo, but with a lot of help from Keith. In the end they were both erected. It was a good job that the public were not allowed in until 2.00pm.

Next was the BBQs and kettles. Richard had the bright idea to put the spare poles from the bunting together with cable tidies and balance the throwaway BBQS on top of them. This worked very well as it saved the grass getting burnt and it saved our backs as we did not have to bend down to cook.

The rain started in short bursts that never lasted long and then the sun came back out. Although it was only a small village fete there were quite a lot of visitors at the start and most of the stalls were kept on their toes. The children with us came back soaking wet because they were playing with the throw the sponge equipment. One little girl spent most of the day helping out on the cake stall, the chaps talked about their cars and the girls talked about what ever girls talk about (this would never be understood by a man). Some of the public showed an interest in joining the club which was very good. Others had stories to tell of when they owned MGs themselves.

Soon it was time to go home. We put away the gazebos faster than we put them up and off we went.

After the fete, we received this Thank You note:

"Just wanted to say a BIG thank you to you and your members for coming to our fete.  Everyone was so impressed - you made a real impact and we all thoroughly enjoyed the MG's.

We raised £1,200 which was brilliant.

Thanks once again.

 Lyn, Fete Organiser "
