The day started really early with some of us getting to the rally at 7.45am. When members arrived they were issued with our new club hats and tee shirts with the club logo on. It was not long before the gazebo was erected - better than last time as it took only 20 minutes. At last we had the cars either side of the main gazebo and it looked very good.
As always at Tredegar there was a lot going on - one of the best auto jumbles in South Wales, side shows selling their wares, wool spinning, steam traction engines, clothing sales and much more. Richard's sat nav must have gone wrong because as he was leading the way around the stalls he managed to take the group down a dead end and they had to turn back.
We had about 17 cars on our allotted pitch and it was very well laid out, although it took a little shunting to get the cars in a straight line. After breakfast (and the bacon rolls smelt really nice) most of us had a walk around the field. This was a mammoth task because there were so many cars to see. Some of our group went to the auto jumble and returned to show us what they had brought while others were just glad to stay with the cars and
talk to the many visitors.
Later in the afternoon a surprise was in store for Bryony because young Katie had made her a Birthday cake, so we all sang happy birthday whilst she blew out the candles. She is 10 years old. Katie gave her a present from the family and Bryony was very surprised. Everybody had a good day. There was plenty of laughter, especially when Haydn stuck a MG badge onto his number plate - you could say it was a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Weather-wise it was a hot day with only a few drops of rain. Some heavy clouds came and went but mainly sunny. Later in the afternoon there was a car auction with a couple of cars donated to Leukaemia research. About ten cars were auctioned, some not reaching their reserve price but it was interesting to watch.
As this was the last show of the year (is no-one going to Malvern then? - Roger) there was some sadness, but we looked back over the very hectic year we have had and the smiles soon came back. All too soon it was time to go home. Some drifted away while others stayed not wanting it to end. The packing away took very little time with everybody mucking in and helping each other to fold their chairs, tables, gazebos ready for the off.
As usual a quick check to make sure no rubbish was left, a final wave and shouts of "see you Thursday", for the month's meeting and we were off - Richard having a slight panic because we had hid his car keys.
