Kington Show

20th August 2006

Eight cars met at the Harvester, Pontypool at 8.30am. Sandra was there to meet us to give us the awning, bunting and flags as she was unable to attend. Everything was loaded in the cars and we were on our way by 8.35am. Richard lead the way with the trusty sat nav firmly in place. It was not long before we took a short stop so that the hoods could be raised as it was drizzling with rain and we were off again. The journey to the park was great - nobody broke down, nobody got lost or left behind and it went very smoothly.

On arrival we were given a warm welcome by the man with the mike who was saying about all the MGs and the different shapes and colours. We all lined up and started our respective jobs putting up the gazebo, the bunting and the flags. This was different because we had two gazebos which stood side by side and the bunting was attached to both. It looked really good (see photos).

Well, if there was a water shortage in England the rain on the day soon put a stop to that. It came down in buckets. The chairs were wet, people huddled under the gazebos (even some non-members) but each downpour never lasted long and it never dampened the day.

There was a jazz band playing music, a crooner on the mike who made us all cringe and a band called cider and something. In the middle ring a lot of very nice vintage cars made a circuit and were talked about individually. There was a show put on by a very well trained dancing horse which was very good. It danced to a lot of music and some of the steps it performed were quite hard.

We were praised for our site by two different car clubs. Glamorgan MG club said our flag made theirs look like a tea towel and Hereford club said they would like to arrange a day or evening with them as we seemed like a nice bunch. Well, we are always very happy when we go out and this shows.

For an attendance gift we received a pen with a laser torch on the end, which was different. It also had the words Kington Village Club on so a nice little thing to remember the day by.

While we were all sitting talking it was said that we need more members to attend these shows and runs for support so come along or join the club - new members always welcome.
