GWENT MG OWNERS CLUB

 Report

Barry Transport Festival

10th June 2006

There were 3 cars in attendance from the club: Phil & Linda, Lynn and Geoff & Sue. It was a very quiet day with not many visitors, but the girls took the train into Barry, went to the beach, the rides and town.

There were a total of 49 cars there and a couple of motor bikes. After eating the free bacon rolls which were a bit fatty the men settled down to talk to anybody that would listen. One sad moment when a dog collapsed in the heat, but he was soon doused in water and a chap in a veteran car took him home. There was a lot of room for more cars. Paul Arnold said he was arranging a run for a Saturday at 1830hrs; more info to come on that, but it would not be too long and not a run that taxes the brain so Sandra should be ok.

11th June 2006

We eventually arrived at Barry Show although directions were very poor and maps lacking and most of you know what happened to yours truly.

The day was very hot and sunny and a trip to Barry Island either by bus or train was in the offing for free.

Later in the day Richard, Lorraine and yours truly departed on the Diesel train to Barry Island. We sat waiting for the train all hoping it was Percy the Steam Engine. Not to be; it was Dan the Diesel.

We had an exciting time on the island reliving our spent youth of chips and big dippers. On our return as we approached the station we could see Percy the Steam engine waiting to pick up passengers. The Fat Controller was waving her green flag and Richard ran and jumped on the moving train shouting to his wife to jump. (Fortunately not obeying ). Dearie me, the door was shut and with shouts of "its going into the sidings" Percy disappeared out of sight.

Concerned as we were we jumped on Dan the diesel which had arrived to take over from Percy and to transport us to whence we had come from. Richard arrived later no worse for his ordeal with Percy, the steam engine and the fat controller.

Seriously thanks to everyone who looked after me that day. It was much appreciated.
